The Top 5 Tips on Maintaining Cleanliness in a Co-working Space

Working in a shared office space is awesome. You meet like-minded people, save on rent, and when you’re working at L’Atelier, you’re located in Downtown Vancouver! We take cleanliness and hygiene very seriously at L’Atelier, hence we have developed a system to maintain cleanliness in our space. With a constant influx of members, you might think it’s challenging, but not with us! Below are our top 5 tips on how to keep a Co-working space clean:

  1. Set expectations: Before our members sign up, we give them a tour of the space. We ensure to let our future members know that maintaining the cleanliness of the space is everyone’s responsibility. Once the expectation is set, our members are awesome enough to follow through!
  2. Provide the tools necessary:  From labelled accessible bins around the space, to dishwashing sponges and detergents, to sanitizers and deodorisers, everything required to keep the space clean is provided. Once tools are available, no excuses are made.
  3. Signs, signs, and more signs: At L’Atelier, we shamelessly put signs up for everything! We have signs for dishwashing instructions, surface wiping, bathroom usage, meeting room etiquette, opening up and closing, and monthly reminders on our communication channels. Believe it or not, as annoying as multiple signs can be, they’re super effective.
  4. Have the rules and regulations embedded in your T&Cs: When members sign up, we send them an email with the T&Cs of the space. The rules and regulations of the space are included in the clauses, in order to ensure everyone is aware of our cleanliness standards.
  5. Lead by example: People will follow the owner or manager’s lead. Make sure you’re leaving your area spotless and lead by example. Once people see you acting that way, they will follow.
