What makes a Co-working Space AMAZING?

In an interview with our creative director Sabrina Chammas Doumet, we asked her a simple question: what makes a co-working space AMAZING?

ENERGY AND VIBE

The most important factor in any space, is the vibe it emits. Walking into a vibrant place surrounded by positive energy instantly attracts the right type of people. When you step into L’Atelier, you instantly feel the positivity surrounding the space, and in turn it brings out the best in you.

LAYOUT

There needs to be a balance between maintaining members’ privacy, and ensuring a “Team oriented”  atmosphere. A coworking space needs the right ratio of common areas vs private rooms for meetings and phone calls in order to make sure people are at their most productive and comfortable while working. I picked our location based on the natural light that surrounds the space, and decorated it in a way that enhances the beautiful existing structure.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

You can have the most perfect space, but if it isn’t accessible, you will lose a high percentage of your clientele.  Even though it is definitely pricier to have a space in such a central location, it was definitely a priority for me. L’Atelier is located 7-8 minutes walking distance from 3 major skytrain stations, hence it is accessible through Public Transport. We are also surrounded by Vancouver’s top coffee shops, restaurants, and shops.

AFFORDABILITY

I believe at L’Atelier we nailed the sweet spot of quality and price. We provide the highest level of service we can (cleanliness, customer service, attention to detail) but we do not have unnecessary charges or amenities that don’t really add value. For example, having unlimited free beer on tap would be nice but would add to people’s membership costs and is not really the type of environment we want to encourage in our space, instead, we carefully plan happy hours at offer our members free alcohol after work hours.

UNIQUENESS

There aren’t two places that look like L’Atelier in the world. We have a unique design and a unique way of doing things. L’Atelier members definitely appreciate that we’re a boutique space and that we make the effort to get to know everyone and connect members with each other.
